Spirit Matters: The Often Overlooked Piece of Holistic Healing

When we think about holistic wellness, most people naturally focus on the mind and body.

We talk about nervous system regulation, mental health, nutrition, movement, sleep, stress management, and physical symptoms. These are all incredibly important parts of healing.

But there is another piece of the puzzle that often gets overlooked:

The Spirit.

Not religion or an organized belief system. Simply the part of you that seeks meaning, purpose, connection, intuition, and a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you. When we neglect this aspect of ourselves, healing can sometimes feel incomplete. We may be doing everything "right" and still feel disconnected, unfulfilled, or like something is missing.

What Does Spirituality Really Mean?

For many people, the word spirituality can bring up mixed feelings. Some immediately associate it with religion. Others may feel resistance because of past experiences or beliefs. Some may simply feel unsure of what spirituality even means.

At its core, spirituality is about connection to yourself, your inner wisdom and to something larger than yourself. These all intertwine into something difficult to describe, but humanity for thousands of years has felt and documented this connection. It's about exploring the parts of life that can't always be measured or explained but are deeply felt. Things like love, intuition, purpose, creativity, awe, and meaning.

Why This Matters for Healing

Healing isn't just about reducing symptoms. It's about becoming whole. The mind and body are important pieces of that process, but many people discover that true transformation happens when they begin exploring the deeper questions:

  • What brings meaning to my life?

  • What feels aligned for me?

  • What am I being called to learn?

  • How do I trust myself more?

When we create space for these questions, healing often begins to move beyond simply managing challenges and toward creating a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.

There Is No "Right" Way to Connect

One of the beautiful things about spirituality and intuition is that it isn't one-size-fits-all. What helps one person feel connected may not resonate with someone else at all. Whatever you use to connect and make sense of the world and yourself, trust it can be a powerful tool to tap into.

Some people explore modalities such as:

  • Prayer

  • Meditation

  • Intentional Time in Nature

  • Astrology and Numerology

  • Art, Music and Creative Expression

  • Tarot Cards or other Divination Tools

  • Channeling

Others never use any of those tools and still feel deeply connected to their spiritual side.

The goal isn't to follow someone else's path. The goal is to discover what helps you feel connected to yourself and whatever you consider to be the source driving existence.

Curiosity Creates Growth

One of the greatest barriers to growth is believing we already know everything we need to know.

Curiosity creates expansion. It allows us to explore new ideas, perspectives, and possibilities without immediately judging them. Being curious doesn't mean you have to agree with everything.

It simply means being willing to ask questions, being open to learn and consider there is something valuable out there that you have not discovered yet. Sometimes the most profound shifts in healing begin with a simple thought:

"Maybe there's more for me to explore."

The Importance of Discernment

As important as intuition is, discernment is equally important. Not every piece of information is meant for you. Not every message you hear is accurate. Not every teacher or practitioner will align with your values. This is where self-trust becomes essential.

As you explore spiritual practices, ask yourself:

  • Does this feel aligned?

  • Does this resonate with my experience?

  • Does this empower me?

  • Does this help me connect more deeply with myself?

Your intuition and your common sense can work together. In fact, they should.

Authenticity Creates Alignment

One lesson I've learned on my own journey is that authenticity matters. For a long time, I kept certain aspects of my spiritual interests separate from my professional work because I wasn't sure how people would respond. And there is definitely a level of how much I allow my personal to blend with my work that feels like it still holds integrity with my business. But eventually, I realized that hiding parts of myself wasn't serving anyone. The more aligned and authentic we become, the easier it is to connect with the people we are meant to serve and the experiences that are meant for us. Authenticity doesn't guarantee everyone will understand your path. But it does create opportunities for deeper connection and alignment.

An Invitation to Explore

If you've never explored the spiritual side of healing, consider this a gentle invitation. Not an invitation to adopt a particular belief system or to follow a specific practice. Simply an invitation to become curious and to pay attention to what sparks lights you up. Notice what makes you feel connected. Explore what helps you feel grounded, aligned, and more fully yourself.

You don't need to have everything figured out. You only need to be open to the possibility that healing involves more than just the mind and body. Sometimes the missing piece isn't something you need to fix or change, but it's a part of yourself that has been waiting to be acknowledged.

Reflection Questions

  • What helps you feel most connected to yourself?

  • Do you have a spiritual practice, even if you don't call it one?

  • Where in your life could you practice more curiosity?

  • What intuitive nudges have you been ignoring?

  • What would change if you trusted yourself a little more?

The journey of healing is ultimately a journey of connection. And sometimes, the most powerful discoveries happen when we become willing to explore the parts of ourselves we cannot always see, but can deeply feel.
